An Anesthesia Technologist is a vital member of the perioperative team who assists anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of anesthesia care. The role combines technical support, equipment preparation and maintenance, patient safety checks, and intra‑operative assistance to maintain high standards of clinical practice.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare anesthesia equipment and supplies: set up anesthesia machines, ventilators, monitors, airway devices, infusion pumps, and suction systems before procedures.
Perform equipment checks: verify functionality, calibrate monitors, check gas supplies, and ensure all safety alarms are operational.
Assist during induction and emergence: help with airway management, positioning, IV access support, and preparation of drugs and syringes as directed by the anesthesiologist.
Monitor and document: observe anesthesia monitors, record vital signs and intra‑operative events, and assist in maintaining accurate anesthesia records.
Maintain infection control and sterile technique: prepare sterile trays, handle disposables correctly, and ensure aseptic practice in the anesthesia workspace.
Manage anesthesia inventory: track consumables, restock trays and trolleys, and report shortages to procurement.
Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance: carry out routine cleaning, basic servicing of anesthesia equipment, and coordinate with biomedical engineering for repairs and calibrations.
Support patient transfer and handover: assist with safe transfer to recovery, provide handover to PACU staff, and ensure continuity of care.
Participate in emergency response: assist in resuscitation, rapid sequence induction, and other anesthesia emergencies as part of the clinical team.
Follow policies and documentation: comply with hospital protocols, safety checklists, and regulatory requirements (e.g., equipment logs, incident reporting).
Education: Diploma or degree in Anesthesia Technology, Operating Theatre Technology, Respiratory Therapy, or related allied health field.
Experience: Minimum 2–4 years experience in an operating theatre or anesthesia department preferred.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred. Any local licensing or registration as required by Kuwait health authorities is an advantage.
Technical skills: Proficient with anesthesia machines, patient monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, and airway devices. Familiarity with equipment calibration and basic troubleshooting.
Clinical skills: Knowledge of perioperative procedures, airway management basics, sterile technique, and infection control.
Soft skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, excellent teamwork and communication skills, and professional bedside manner.
Language: Good command of English; Arabic is an advantage.
Visa/Work status: Valid residency and work permit in Kuwait; transferable visa preferred where applicable.
Prior experience in tertiary hospitals or high‑volume surgical centers.
Familiarity with anesthesia documentation systems or electronic medical records.
Additional certifications in perioperative care or anesthesia assistance.
Willingness to work rotating shifts, on‑call duties, and emergency cover.
